Antonia Turilli

about

Meet Toni

I grew up in a small town just outside of Boston. Just like the New England climate, my early life came with constant highs and lows. In spite of all that, the one constant in my life has always been my love for performing. I’ve had extensive experience on stage and on screen, and I have a passion for both. Earlier in my life, like many other transgender actors, the performing didn’t stop after exiting the stage or stepping off set. Although I transitioned at a very young age, I’ve spent the majority of my adulthood keeping my trans identity anonymous.

Even while earning my BFA at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, almost no one knew about this part of myself. I gave up my voice, artistically and personally. I turned down roles for fear of being pigeonholed into a harmful trope. As I begin a new chapter of my life in New York City, I will no longer compromise my artistry for the sake of anything, even the unbearable winters.

My artistic (and consequently my personal) mission is to work with my identity, not against it. I am a fierce advocate for every trans and queer actor to be free to do the same. For this to happen, we need to be at the center of stories about being trans and at the center of stories that don’t address transness. I deserve that space, just as we all do.

So anyways, that was a long winded way of telling you who I am. Here’s the short version for those with shorter attention spans: I am an actor. I am a proud transgender woman. I am a sister. I am a daughter. I am a friend. I am a dog mom. I am an advocate. I am Toni. I can’t wait to meet you and I can’t wait to work with you.
